Roselyn "Rosie" E. Westfall
Main Character, Narrator
Title: The Heiress
Age: 16 (beginning of book), 17 (middle and end of book)
Rosie has always thought of herself as plain-looking, but favors her nose which she thinks isn't too big or too small, and is just the right pointed shape. Her eyes are almond-shaped and her irises are a honey brown. Her skin is a light beige tone with a couple faded freckles at the sides of her cheeks. Her light brown hair just reaches her shoulders, and it is usually held back with a colored headband. She can't stand how pin-straight it is.
Rosie just reaches 5'6'' (165 cm) and has a naturally slim body type. She's looked at by other characters as small and petite, despite being tall. It is noted that in majority of the book a large, raised scar exists on the right side of her abdomen, just beside her navel from a nearly fatal stab wound.
Roselyn is the only child of Earl and Samantha Westfall. She was born and raised in Rochester, New York, never really getting to meet her paternal grandparents and seldom seeing the rest of her extended family. Feeling a sense of loneliness in her childhood, she sought after a thriving social life at school. In middle school she met her three current best frends: Sophie, Jen, and Lydia. The girls spent most of their time together and had an obsession with all things paranormal, thanks to Lydia. After her sophomore (second year) of high school, Rosie received news that her father is being relocated to a new workplace in the infamously crime-ridden City of Lyndencove, 40-50 minutes away from Rochester. This news tore her apart, knowing she would be separated from the life she spent so long creating.
The move to Lyndencove changed Rosie. After realizing the students at Lyndencove Public High School wanted nothing to do with her, she rejected the idea of finding new friends, and spent almost every day in her new school by herself. In mid-September of the school year is where the story begins.
Rosie is curious, temperamental, and self-conscious (especially when in the midst of guys her age). Along with these traits, she is also modest, understanding, and loyal to those who are close to her. More than anything, Rosie craves for her teacher Azrail (the grim reaper) to be proud of her, which impacts a lot of decisions she makes. While she wants to prove to him that she is worthy of being the heiress to the throne, she hides the fact that she has little faith in herself. One of her biggest fears is being vulnerable and knowing that no matter what she's destined to be, she is still just as fragile as every other life in the world.
Rosie loves visits from her friends, and has a passion for photography. It's noted once in a while that she enjoys being on the internet and connecting with friends that way. Meeting Azrail and discovering her destiny changed her positively from her once depressed state. While death still deeply disturbs her, she finds a personality in Azrail that easily calms her, and she looks up to him almost as if he is her second father.
